Marvel Films Gearing Up For Several New Releases

7 May 2008 96 views No Comment

To say that comic book movies have made a huge impact in Hollywood over the past several years would be the understatement of the decade. These days comic properties are one of the most sought after vehicles for popular films in the current days of waning creativity and repetitive cliche films.

While comic films have come and gone for many years, Marvel’s X-Men in 2000 set the bar and the tone for comic films as they exist today. Since then, Marvel has released several popular films including Spider-Man 1-3, two sequels to X-Men, Blade, and a few not-so-loved properties such as Daredevil, Ghost Rider and Hulk.

Iron Man Movie PosterThe latest film to come from the Marvel camp is Iron Man, which has become a runaway success. Mere days since its premiere and a sequel has already been slated for an April 30, 2010 release date. The film, which lived up to most expectations, follows Billionaire weapons developer, Tony Stark as he dons the classic armor to become the future founder of The Avengers, Iron Man.

According to an interview with Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark) and Director Jon Favreau, the sequel could possibly see Terrance Howard’s character, James “Rhodey” Rhodes suit up as War Machine, a popular character in the comics from the 1990s.

Marvel also revealed two other new films to come out over the next couple of years: The First Avenger: Captain America, and The Avengers in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

But before those are ready to go there are plenty of other comic films to enjoy from Marvel including The Incredible Hulk, Punisher 2 and Wolverine.

If the ’90s was the decade of the coming of age films, the first decade of the 2000s is definitely the year of comic films.
