The government has promised to double funding to reduce and replace the use of animals in scientific research, revealed today. Funding will grow more than 5 000 000 £ during 2010-11.
Use of animals in medical research has contributed immensely in almost every major medical breakthroughs. An estimated 50 to 100 million animals are used annually for research purposes around the world in various research organizations, including universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical industries, biotechnology companies, the defense and commercial institutions that provide test animals.
